Dr. Swen Vykydal practices intellectual property law, competition law, distribution law, and franchise law. Specifically he:

  • Has advised clients in competition law matters for 25 years (e.g., planning and preparing advertising campaigns, claims, etc.) in the pharmaceutical industry as well as in media, protection of right to privacy, and distribution law;
  • Has litigated matters for 25 years either as plaintiff’s or defense counsel in all specialized German courts in competition law matters, intellectual property, and distribution law;
  • Provides comprehensive representation in intellectual property law matters (trademarks, industrial design matters, and copyrights);
  • Has vast experience in distribution law matters, in particular franchise law. Advice comprises establishing franchise systems and preparing and negotiating contracts, as well as representing franchisors in legal disputes with franchisees and pursuing out-of-court settlements for such disputes; and
  • Provides comprehensive advice for all issues concerning the registration, maintenance, and enforcement of intellectual property rights, in particular trademarks (trademark prosecution and litigation).

Education and Career

Swen has been a German Attorney at Law since 1994 and a Partner at SCHIEDERMAIR since 2005. He is a Member of SCHIEDERMAIR’s Intellectual Property, IT, Distribution Practice and is specialized in competition law matters, intellectual property, and distribution law.

Prior to joining SCHIEDERMAIR, Swen practiced for ten years at LINKLATERS in Frankfurt, Cologne, London, and Munich. Also during that time, his specialties were competition law, intellectual property, and distribution law.

Swen has been a Member of Standing Expert Committee of Intellectual Property at the Frankfurt Bar Association since 2012.

Swen studied Law, German Language and Literature, Politics, and Sociology at the Johann Wolfgang-Goethe University in Frankfurt. He earned his Doctorate in 1996. He also studied International and American Law at the Academy of American and International Law in Dallas, Texas in 1999.
