  • Has advised on venture capital transaction either on the side of investors or founders;
  • Has represented and advised corporations on acquisitions or divestitures in the small und midcap segments, whether domestically or cross-border;
  • Has advised stock corporations, as well as associations limited by shares, on preparing and holding shareholders’ meetings, in particular in connection with capital increases and restructurings;

Education and Career

Matthias has been a German Attorney at Law since 2003 and a Partner at SCHIEDERMAIR in Frankfurt since 2015. As a Member of the firm’s Corporate Law, M&A, Tax, and Notarial Services Practice, he focuses on venture capital, capital markets law, stock corporations law, and accounting law.

Before joining SCHIEDERMAIR, Matthias practiced at the law firm of GSK STOCKMANN + KOLLEGEN in Frankfurt for eight years (six of which as a Local Partner) concentrating also on corporate and capital markets law. Prior to that, he practiced at PricewaterhouseCoopers AG as in-house counsel in the Legal and National Reporting Department. Matthias began his legal career at the German law firm of MPK RECHTSANWÄLTE in Frankfurt.

Matthias studied law at the University of Osnabrück and served as an Assistant Lecturer to Prof. Theodor Baums of the Institute for Trade and Commercial Law. He earned his Doctorate at the University of Osnabrück in 2002. His doctoral thesis was on the legal differences of venture capital financing in the United States and Germany. He completed a stint as a researcher at Stanford University as part of his doctoral research.

Professional Recognition

Matthias‘ doctoral thesis was supported and publicly recognized by the Heinz-Ansmann-Foundation. He is listed in the Legal 500 (2014) as a recommended attorney in the areas of corporate law and M&A. Matthias was nominated for the PLATOW Legal Award 2013 for his representation in the VestCorp case.
