Real Estate Law

Through her prior experience as a real estate attorney at the Frankfurt office of an international law firm, and as in-house counsel at the German subsidiary of the servicer of a private equity fund, Dr. Christine Bunzel has vast experience in planning and performing due diligence investigations, structuring transactions, drafting agreements, and advising on the acquisition of real estate portfolios, individual parcels of real estate, as well as on loan facilities secured by real estate.

Asset Management

In particular because of her in-house experience, Christine is familiar with all legal issues relating to asset management e.g., contract, corporate, foreclosure, and bankruptcy issues. Additionally, because of her unique in-house experience, clients often ask Christine for advice on conflicts of laws issues, energy law, and advice on the sale or purchase of real estate.

Non-Performing Loans

Christine is well-versed on work-outs as well as on the reorganization and winding-up of distressed debt. She often advises her clients on structuring loan sales and drafting realization agreements.

Representative Clients Matters

  • Advised and represented a Swiss bank on the acquisition of commercial and residential real estate, including due diligence
  • Advised and represented a Dutch bank on the acquisition of a logistics center
  • Advised on the acquisition of a loan facility with a face value of approximately EUR 80 million
  • Advised on the acquisition of a portfolio with 31 loan facilities (Project Royal)
  • Advised clients on various bucket sales of secured and unsecured loan facilities

Education and Career

Christine has been a German Attorney at Law since 2006 and an Associate at SCHIEDERMAIR in Frankfurt since 2014. She is a Member of SCHIEDERMAIR’s Corporate Law, M&A, Tax, and Notarial Services Practice. She focuses on commercial lease and general real estate matters.

Prior to joining SCHIEDERMAIR, she served as in-house counsel at HUDSON ADVISORS GERMANY GMBH in Frankfurt and subsequently at SIEMENS AG in Munich. While at HUDSON ADVISORS, she also worked at HUDSON ADVISORS UK LLP in the London office for six months. Christine started her legal career in the Real Estate Practice Area in the Frankfurt office of MAYER BROWN LLP. While completing her legal studies, she worked at TEASDALE ARMSTRONG LLP in St. Louis, Missouri.  

Christine completed her post-graduate legal training period (Referendariat) in Frankfurt as well as at the School of Administration in Speyer, Germany. She studied law at the Philipps University in Marburg, Germany where she completed a doctoral thesis on recently-enacted statutory provisions concerning wasted expenditures in contract law.
